Male ways to learn etymology
Josh 201604 KWP
Butterfly comes from Dutch "boterschijte" which means "butter shit" because the butterfly's excrement looks like butter.

Or so says etymologist, Marina, from Russia, who is also known as "HotForWords" and is the #35 YouTube channel in this episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vrvmh2aeKdQ

And, while she's not naked, and not "doing" anything suggestive, she's always showing cleavage and is overall pretty hot. For words.

The hot woman doesn't cover Moth, but my moderately decent etymology dictionary as well as etymologyonline.com both say it's likely from the Old English form of maggot. One book spells it maða and the other spells it mattha. Until 1600CE, it referred to the larvae and not the flying form.
