Problem with winrar

I've been a strong proponent of WinRAR for a long time. The compression was better than ZIP for most things, and it supported AES encryption first.

However, I ran into a problem today.

AIX doesn't use file extensions so much. The install media has a file called bos.txt which is in backup file format (similar to dump format on other unices).

So I used WinRAR to pull it out of the ISO image, then renamed it to .bin, and sent it via SCP to an aix host.

MUNGED.

Tried again. MUNGED.

Tried with 7Zip. WORKED

*sigh*

I pretty much only use bz2 or 7zip (when I have it installed) anymore, and I'll eventually just use 7zip as soon as I can have it mandated on all computers at work :)

Yah, 7z seems to be full of win nowadays. When it first came out, it displeased me, but I can't remember why.

Now, it has AES256 support, and overall, the defaults don't require much tweaking except for the "process open files" setting.
