Also using the Shimano HG-50 34-11 cassette. The gearing is okay, but I want something else between 6 and 7, and I want something between 8 and 9. I might de-rivet them and play with the cog selection.
I replaced the bottom bracket. Old bb was screw in races, steel bearings, a retainer clip, and the spindle. Some of it was completely worn through after 400 miles. That's the big-box quality for you, but 400 miles is good for the casual rider. New one is sealed cartridge, UN55, and is smooth as butter and was easier to install. (socket vs a big, flat wrench).
Also had my new seat bag on there with an extra chain, but the KMC Z9 chain I got from DNP seems to be holding up better than the X9. Still, I didn't stand on the pedals, so we'll see.
My bash guard had lost a screw, so I replaced the screw. I need to upgrade cranks, but not yet.
I still have a jump-stop and new brakes to install, but I spent a lot of time installing the new parts already. Will do the others in a few days.
The ride itself was SLOW. I felt like I had no power. After an hour, I talked with some friends for about 10 minutes, and had more energy for the return home. I still didn't have much energy, but it was an hour out, and 40 mins back.
I'm still short on sleep, so maybe my Monday ride will be better (assuming I get some sleep).
Though, my stats look good, so maybe it's just the perceived effort of this cogset rather than an actual problem. Still, perceived effort higher, but higher performance is good. I got a personal best going up the hill in Copper Canyon. I'm still ranked 399 out of 412, but whatever.
