A short ride with the pathfinders. We met at Bartley's BBQ, rode down to Horseshoe Trail and back, then ate BBQ and chatted. Lots of people I didn't recognize, and a few I did. Talked about Hotter'n Hell next weekend. Still not sure if I'm up for driving to W/F the day after I drive back from Austin, then spending a few hours riding in the Texas sun.

After, we stopped by Mad Duck. Dogs didn't like eachother, and I managed to find the one sharp bit of metal in the store with my hand. Aside from that, I got measured and fit for bikes. It was a good conversation, but I don't know that I was really the target market. Most of the bikes in the shop are CFRP and the owner is a strong believer in it due to vibration dampening and stiff bottom brackets. Me? I was looking for a solid frame to build up, or a decent bike that I didn't have to add too many parts to. I'm probably still leaning towards something Urban/Commuter/Hybrid, maybe with road cranks and 29er tires.

The showiest bike of the group was Bryan Bartlett's Frosti. It had 85x559 rims and 26x3.8 tires. It sounded like a Jeep rolling up.

The ride group photo is here:

Anyway, the ride was good, despite being short. Several of us pushed for the front, and got in a good workout. My average moving speed was 13.1mph, and average overall of 11.8. Very pleased with that.
