Sounds schnazzy... I'm not overly religious, but this guy's surface view sounds good.

He thinks women and gays should be able to be clergy. To the people who have a problem with this, I ask, "Would you rather have a gay priest, or a child-molesting priest?"

Hrm, though, the 3 laws of robotics keep them in servitude. Slavery begats resentment, begats looking for loopholes in the rules.

Just look at the ones with the modified third law? I mean, sheesh...

Though at that point, we're talking evolution.

It would be hard to actually implement such a law into a neural network. It'd have to be trained like everything else, and have some sort of negative reinforcement for it... but it's too simple a description for the complex nature of it.

maybe train it into a separate lobe, then add a second set of memory for everything else...

i recently watched "bicentennial man" and i somehow wonder if that kind of quest for sentience is even possible, i mean a neural net would have to have such intricate pathways and the ability to expand to get such cognative thoughts out, no?

i'm fast becoming a fan of ai, in general, we should all get drinks and talk sometime when you finally move into dallas. =]

No, I mean, I think a few thousand solid state neurons would be enough to confound us, to have personality. To be sentient, maybe a million? Depends on the synapse mapping.

Humans have maybe 125 million neurons, though I'm not sure if that's the whole brain, or just the grey matter. Each neuron has, on average, 100-1000 synapses. Timing, delays, and pattern make up everything. There are multiple neurotransmitters, so that multiples the effective neuron count, and bridges between them...

At some point, I'd like to make a distributed neural network, but I'm not motivated enough for such a daunting task.
