My bill shows "Extended Area Service" which to me indicates that I can call area codes out-side of my local area codes of 972/214/469, which I did not request. When I called the billing support line for explaination, I was told by Traci that without this service charge, all local calls would be billed by the minute.

My boss has the same thing on his line. WTF? Is this true? I've filled out their web form for this too... wierd...

So I called back, and they said it's non-optional - it's just part of the basic line.

So I'm charged for this and taxed for this, which isn't on the bell bill, and it's basically a subscription to the local phone switch.

Verizon is expensive. Basic line is $28.04/month, and Bell was $21.
