slow brain

so.
yah
my brain is too slow for this planet.
I was trying to fix a halogen light box when an idea came to me.
Turbine engines are very efficient, but speed change is very very slow.
So, with hybrid cars becoming the NextBigThing(tm),
Why not use a turbine to drive the alternator/generator?
Use a normal battery.
Use an ultracapacitor, maybe 14v and 50f.
The uc could provide extra amperage during start and during acceleration.
The turbine would keep the battery and uc charged up,
While providing power for the electric motor(s).

So then I look online.

180,000 hits, some as old as 1997.

Blah.
