Bulged disc injection vs surgery?

I was surfing through answers.google.com today because of MATT!

I saw Chymopapain nucleolysis, and thought of Jenn. Jenn had a laminectomy (and was it microdiscectomy, or ?) a few years ago for bulged/ruptured lumbar disc.

Anyway, this stuff is an enzyme isolated from papaya. Erica and the boys sometimes use it dietarily because it helps break down protein. In nucleolysis, it's injected into the bulge of the disc where it breaks down the non-collagen components of the bulge.

In success, the results are identical to laminectomy. Success rate is 76% vs 88% for laminectomy. Risks and complications are substantially lower than laminectomy.
