a few days ago, I added the entire server to Erica's iTunes list.

6200 extra songs.

Because the server was down for a day, it cycled through and marked all of them missing.

The fix is to manually, individually Get Info on each song. There's no batch tool.

So then, she could add each song from the duplicates list to a DELETEME genre.

Then she could delete the DELETEME genre.

She completed this, by hand, over the last week.

And then I remembered.

We back up our laptops and we should have just restored her iTunes database.

Please don't ever touch my iTunes again. Kthx.

(Or my desktop, though I think you've been sufficiently yelled at such that you won't mess with that ever again.)

Fluffy bunnies and snuggly kitten love with rainbows!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!11!1!

Yah, I figured. :)

My iTunes does lose songs from time to time, but it's not generally a problem. The problem this time was that I didn't actually *want* Josh to add anything to iTunes. I'd previously gone through and pulled ~13gb worth of music, and was happy with that. Josh just thought I needed MORE!! And MORE!! meant 33gb. =) Helloooo, sloooow iTunes and millions of duplicates. But all is well now, and I am quite sure that he'll ask me about such things in the future. Right? Right.

So your iTunes isn't slow with 120gb? MAN, mine was hurting with the 33gb. Maybe it's a Mac thing? Or that mine is pulling from a network?

Some of the issue seems to be SAMBA on my server. Even on gigabit, I can't pull more than 11MB/sec. I think it was around 450 iops... 350 on the SATA mirror and the rest fairly well spread across 9 SCSI disks.

I want better caching, parallel threads, and overall goodness.

Aye, the only JennyLubber I know.

I didn't think to try play and then fast-forward.

Nor did I think to restore the iTunes DB from backup.
